Let's Make our New Year's Resolution: To Impeach Bush and Cheney
On December 15, the New York Times revealed George Bush secretly ordered the National Security Agency to spy on American citizens without warrants.
Bush's actions deliberately violated the strict FISA law and subverted the Constitution - both of which are IMPEACHABLE offenses.
Yet on December 17, Bush used his weekly radio address to brag that he broke the law repeatedly - "more than 30 times."
Shortly afterwards, Richard Nixon's White House Counsel John Dean (of Watergate fame) was on a radio show with Senator Barbara Boxer. Dean pointed out that George Bush was the first president in history to confess to an impeachable crime.
So why is a confessed criminal still in the White House - and not in jail???
Because George Bush believes he is above the law. He believes he is a dictator - even a king or an emperor.
Bush claims his dictatorial powers derive from 9-11. But where was Bush after August 6, 2001 when he read the CIA memo entitled "Bin Laden Determined to Attack Inside the United States"? He was on vacation - the longest presidential vacation in history.
And where was Bush on 9-11 itself after four commercial airliners were hijacked? He sat in a Florida classroom reading "My Pet Goat" - even after learning that two of the planes turned the Twin Towers into towering infernos. Then he flew west to get as far from Washington as possible.
When American really needed a President to stop a heinous terrorist attack, George Bush went AWOL - just as he did to the National Guard in 1972.
George Bush should have resigned on 9-11 for his gross failures of leadership before and during the terrorist attack. Instead, he used 9-11 to claim a mandate for dictatorship - first to shred the Constitution, and then to launch an illegal and disastrous war in Iraq.
It is time to revoke Bush's self-proclaimed mandate for dictatorship.
It is time for a change.
My New Year's Resolution for 2006 is simple: to do everything in my power to impeach George Bush and Dick Cheney.
I have shared my Resolution with my Representative and Senators. Will you join me?
http://democrats.com/peoplesemailnetwork/17
I believe impeachment is possible - perhaps even inevitable - if we all resolve to do our part.
Even before the NSA wiretapping scandal broke, a Zogby poll found 53% of Americans thought Bush should be impeached if he lied about Iraq - and 57% believe Bush lied.
After the wiretapping scandal, even libertarians and conservatives started suggesting impeachment. The list includes former Reagan official Bruce Fein, Norm Ornstein of the right-wing American Enterprise Institute, law professors Jonathan Turley and Geoffrey Stone, and even the editor of Barron's, Thomas Donlan.
When Americans across the ideological spectrum support impeachment, all we need is a few Members of Congress to lead the way.
Recently, prominent Democrats like Senator Barbara Boxer, Rep. John Lewis, and Rep. John Conyers began talking seriously about impeachment. Conyers compiled Bush's impeachable offenses in a must-read book, "The Constitution in Crisis." He introduced two bills (H.Res.636 and H.Res.637) to censure Bush and Cheney for withholding evidence from Congress. And Conyers wrote a third bill - H.Res.635 - to create a select committee to investigate the Administration's intent to go to war before congressional authorization, manipulation of pre-war intelligence, encouraging and countenancing torture, and retaliating against critics, and to make recommendations regarding grounds for possible impeachment.
Impeachment is becoming a campaign issue as well. With your support, ImpeachPAC.org has raised $46,261.70 to support pro-impeachment candidates. Our first endorsed candidate, Tony Trupiano of Michigan, is proudly campaigning on his support for impeachment, despite repeated attacks by the Washington Establishment. We hope to endorse many more pro-impeachment candidates - both incumbents and challengers, in the weeks to come. You can help by sending Democratic Congressional candidates here:

We are also forming a powerful Citizens Impeachment Commission of prominent Americans who are willing to lead the fight in the year ahead. Our commission already includes activists Medea Benjamin, Gene Bruskin, Tim Carpenter, David Cline, Steve Cobble, Karen Dolan, Jodie Evans, Mike Ferner, Bob Fertik, Kim Gandy, Doris "Granny D" Haddock, Tom Hayden, Doug Kreeger, Bill Mitchell, Bill Moyer, Michael Rectenwald, Cindy Sheehan, David Swanson, Jonathan Tasini, and Kevin Zeese; former government officials Elizabeth de la Vega, Larry Johnson, and Ann Wright, Historians and Legal Scholars John Bonifaz, Marcus Raskin, Lawrence R. Velvel, and Howard Zinn, and Talk Show Hosts/Editors/Bloggers/Pundits/Authors David Allen, Dave Allsopp, The Bulldog Manifesto, Tom Engelhardt, Thom Hartmann, Laura Flanders, Justin A. Frank, MD, Doug Ireland, Rob Kall, Susie Madrak, Mark Crispin Miller, Brad Newsham, Liza Sabater, and Jeff Tiedrich. And we're just getting started! Please encourage prominent citizens you know to sign up here:

Until recently, the idea of impeaching George Bush and Dick Cheney was a distant dream. But now Democrats are taking the first steps towards making impeachment a reality. And if we devote our efforts to this cause in 2006, I believe we will ultimately succeed.
So please join me in resolving to make 2006 the Year of Impeachment - and sharing this New Year's Resolution with our Representatives:

Let's have a VERY Happy New Year!

Impeachment, Conviction, and Imprisonment...
are the goals. Our window of opportunity is going to run tight with the winter Olympics beginning on Feb 10th. The Olympics give the media an excuse for not covering all the various investigations/trials that are going to be hot items.
Shortly after the Olympics, we will be under primaries and campaigning.
At least we finally have some momentum built up now.
Impeachment would be a great
Impeachment would be a great moment in american history, bush is by far the worst president of the 21st century, worse than any other president in 76 years.
2006 is our year to take the house back from the republicans.
More than a New Year's Resolution
I think that removing Bush and Co. should be the purpose of our lives at this point. Everywhere you look there is horror, deceit, and criminal abuse of power. The CIA appears to do whatever it feels that is necessary no matter how horrific. Jack Abramoff would have lobbied for Hitler if they had met and Adolph had the money. What has happened to decency? Meanwhile, Bush with his doggy Christmas video, "commitment" to his God, and now his Christmas reading list feigns piety and compassion while New Orleans sits still in mold and ruin. How more hideous do the crimes have to be before all Americans realize that if we don't stand up and stop the tanks that are rolling over us, the America that we will be leaving our children will be bereft of freedom and virtue? We all need to heed the call to action.
Squirm, Squirm, Squirm... I Luv It!
Bush is miserable! The Holidays at Camp David instead of on the Ranch for a Month. He had to allow a stampede of journalist to run all over him for a full 30 minutes during his last press conference... he had to shed a little flesh & bone.
I am excited! I believe 2005 was better than 2004, and I believe the curve is continuing along that path of fulfillment, happiness, & truth--- I have high hopes for 2006, my friends.
In 2006 I what this riddle answered by the Supreme Court:
"Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness"
In the same courageous vain as Rep. John Murtha , I challenge the conscience of the Congress to stand up and be counted on the broader issue of the United States: maintaining the promise of the Declaration of Independence,
Is 60% of Americans Happy today?
There is nothing more important at this very moment than the State of the Union and the Threats to it. There are many threats and they have to be prioritized, but in the end... none matters more than the Blood Pressure of the Union: The Economy. The Health of the Union is currently at a Huge Risk. If we agree that the Declaration of Independence supercedes the US Constitution, then our current government is in a state of continual Fault on this solemn promise to the Commonwealth of the United States... Stay the Course? Really?
Everybody has been so sure to protect Life & Liberty, but they sure fall short on that last bit of the American Equation or don't they? Maybe if the poor people that were stranded in New Orleans during Hurricane Katrina would have had a little bit more Happiness in their lives, they would have had enough DOUGH to buy a bus ticket out. But No... we only take you as far as that Liberty thing -- after that you are on your own.
How do you feel about perpetual cliff diving & rock climbing your whole entire life & generation? I'll be right back for your answer, but first I have to go help some friends across the sea and deliver a nice chunk of treasure to them -- I'll see ya in a week or so... and then we can catch up on things.
If you agree, can you help me get this answer?

UPI GERMAN MEDIA: U.S. PREPARES IRAN STRIKE.......
German media: U.S. prepares Iran strike
By MARTIN WALKER
UPI Editor WASHINGTON, Dec. 30 (UPI) -- The Bush administration is preparing its NATO allies for a possible military strike against suspected nuclear sites in Iran in the New Year, according to German media reports, reinforcing similar earlier suggestions in the Turkish media.
The Berlin daily Der Tagesspiegel this week quoted "NATO intelligence sources" who claimed that the NATO allies had been informed that the United States is currently investigating all possibilities of bringing the mullah-led regime into line, including military options. This "all options are open" line has been President George W Bush's publicly stated policy throughout the past 18 months.
But the respected German weekly Der Spiegel notes "What is new here is that Washington appears to be dispatching high-level officials to prepare its allies for a possible attack rather than merely implying the possibility as it has repeatedly done during the past year."
The German news agency DDP cited "Western security sources" to claim that CIA Director Porter Goss asked Turkey's premier Recep Tayyip Erdogan to provide political and logistic support for air strikes against Iranian nuclear and military targets. Goss, who visited Ankara and met Erdogan on Dec. 12, was also reported to have to have asked for special cooperation from Turkish intelligence to help prepare and monitor the operation.
The DDP report added that Goss had delivered to the Turkish prime minister and his security aides a series of dossiers, one on the latest status of Iran's nuclear development and another containing intelligence on new links between Iran and al-Qaida.
DDP cited German security sources who added that the Turks had been assured of a warning in advance if and when the military strikes took place, and had also been given "a green light" to mount their own attacks on the bases in Iran of the PKK, (Kurdish Workers party), which Turkey sees as a separatist group responsible for terrorist attacks inside Turkey.
Goss's visit to the Turkish capital followed the rising international concern over recent statements by the new Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad that Israel should be "wiped off the map," denying the existence of Holocaust, and suggesting that Israel's Jewish population might be re-located to Europe.
In a December 23 report, the DDP agency quoted an anonymous but "high-ranking German military official" telling their reporter: "I would be very surprised if the Americans, in the mid-term, didn't take advantage of the opportunity delivered by Tehran. The Americans have to attack Iran before the country can develop nuclear weapons. After that would be too late."
The DDP report also said that several friendly Arab governments, including Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Oman and Pakistan, had also been informed in general terms that the Pentagon was preparing contingency plans, including "the option of air strikes," in the event of the new Iranian government precipitating a crisis.
Arab diplomatic sources have told United Press International that they have been given no briefings on any policy change beyond President Bush's "all option are open."
Bush's most recent such statement in public came on Aug. 13, during an interview at his ranch in Crawford, Texas, when he told Israeli TV: "As I say, all options are on the table. The use of force is the last option for any president and, you know, we've used force in the recent past to secure our country."
Other NATO sources have told United Press International that "all this may be mood music, a way to step up the diplomatic pressure on Tehran."
It is possible that leaks from NATO and German security sources are part of a ploy to convince the Iranian government that the Americans and their NATO allies are in dead earnest when they say a nuclear-armed Iran would not be tolerated, and that Iran had better start negotiating seriously.
But the German media speculation about the supposed U.S. plans has been fueled by a number of high-profile visits to Turkey this month, including trips by Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, by the CIA's Porter Goss and by the FBI Director Robert Mueller, who also delivered U.S. intelligence reports on Iranian backing for PKK operations aimed against Turkey. There have also been some significant Turkish visits to Washington, as reported by Der Spiegel.
"Two weeks ago, Yasar Buyukanit, the commander of the Turkish army and probable future chief of staff of the country's armed forces, flew to Washington. After the visit he made a statement that relations between the Turkish army and the American army were once again on an excellent footing," Der Spiegel reported Friday.
"Buyukanit's warm and fuzzy words, contrasted greatly with his past statements that if the United States and the Kurds in northern Iraq proved incapable of containing the PKK in the Kurd-dominated northern part of the country and preventing it from attacking Turkey, Buyukanit would march into northern Iraq himself," the German weekly added.
The CIA Director's Dec. 12 call on the Turkish prime minister last for over an hour, far longer than customary for a mere courtesy call, and followed an even longer meeting with senior staff of MIT, Turkish intelligence. The Turkish Daily Cumhuriyet reported on December 13: "Goss also asked Ankara to be ready for a possible U.S. air operation against Iran and Syria."
Der Spiegel noted Friday that the latest high-level visitor to the Turkish premier was NATO Secretary-General Jaap De Hoop Scheffer. This is not unusual, since Turkey is a member of NATO, but the coincidence of these various trips prompted Spiegel to comment "the number of American and NATO security officials heading to Ankara has increased dramatically."
"In Berlin, the issue is largely being played down," Der Spiegel reported Friday. "During his inaugural visit with U.S. Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld in Washington last week, the possibility of a U.S. air strike against Iran 'had not been an issue,' for new German Defense Minister Franz Josef Jung, a Defense Ministry spokesman told Spiegel."
The original story in the German press which provoked the wider media furore was written for the DDP agency by a veteran reporter on security and intelligence matters, Udo Ulfkotte, who has in the past been criticized in the German media for being "too close to sources at Germany's foreign intelligence agency, the BND" (Bundesnachrichtendienst).
At the same time, Ulfkotte has himself come under scrutiny by German security services, and his home and offices have been repeatedly searched in the course of inquiries into allegations that he had published official secrets.
